Hemp, oh hemp, is one of the most beautiful gifts from nature! It deserves a spot on every health-conscious person’s plate in all the variety of its forms! Just imagine the vibrant life we can lead when we nourish our bodies with foods that support our overall well-being.

Hempika hemp flour is a whole grain by-product of hemp seed pressing, produced by grinding the hemp cake in a stone mill and sifting it to create a coarsely powder. Packed with vegetable protein and dietary fiber, this flour is the superhero of gluten-free baking. Plus, it is easily digestible and exceptionally nutritious. It’s chock-full of healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals like vitamin E, B1, B6, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, iron, zinc, copper, manganese, and calcium. Sure, some of the goodies might be lost in the process of cooking or baking, but most of the nutritional value will find its way to your tummy.

If you didn’t incorporate hemp flour into your recipes yet, you indeed are late for the healthy hemp party! Hempika hemp flour can be used to make bread, pastries, and other bakery products, pasta, pizza, gnocchi, etc. You name it – hemp can do it! #1 Hemp Flour Pancakes

  • 1 cup hemp flour
  • 2 tablespoons coconut sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup plant-based milk
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Mix together dry ingredients. In a separate bowl, mix together milk and vinegar. Let sit for a few minutes to curdle, then add coconut oil and vanilla extract to the milk mixture and whisk to combine. Pour wet ingredients into the dry ones, and whisk until smooth. Bake on the pan as you usually would for 2-3 minutes on each side, until golden brown.

#2 Yeast-free Hemp Bread

  • 200g of hemp flour
  • 200g of spelt flour
  • 300ml of yogurt (you can also use soy yogurt)
  • 150ml of sparkling water
  • Two teaspoons of olive oil
  • Two teaspoons of baking soda
  • Salt

Preheat the oven to 200°C. Whisk together all the ingredients. Worry not about the sticky texture of the mixture – it should be that way! Put baking paper into the loaf pan, add the bread mixture, and bake for 30 minutes. Then, lower the oven temperature to 180°C and continue baking for another 20 minutes. When the bread is baked, spread a bit of lukewarm water over the crust and wrap it in a damp cloth. Store the bread in the fabric to keep it light and soft. Good appetite!

#3 Hemp Flour Pasta

  • 2 cups hemp flour
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Water, as needed

Whisk together hemp flour, all-purpose flour, and salt. Make a hole in the center of the flour mixture, and crack in the eggs. Add olive oil. Use a fork to whisk the eggs, gradually incorporating the flour mixture. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth. Cover the dough and let it rest for 30 minutes. Roll out the dough and cut it into desired shapes. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the pasta for 2-3 minutes or until al dente.

How does it taste like?

Hemp flour has a nutty flavor and a slightly greenish hue, which gives baked goods a unique and somewhat earthy taste. It can be used in various recipes, including bread, falafel, lasagna, pasta, pancakes, muffins, and cookies.

Hemp flour can be consumed raw but is generally more palatable when cooked or baked. Raw hemp flour has a somewhat gritty texture and can have a slightly bitter taste due to chlorophyll’s presence, giving it a greenish hue. It does not contain gluten, so it can be more challenging to use in recipes that require a lot of structure, such as bread.
