Our pets can benefit from CBD just like we do. How can it help and why can a pet need it?
TABLE OF CONTENTS

Hemp is gaining back the reputation that it once had, mainly because of its therapeutic potential. Because numerous researches are being made, we can already talk about proven beneficial effects of cannabinoids. With that in mind, we ask ourselves – can our pets benefit from them? The answer is simple. Of course, they can.

All vertebrates have developed a complex signalization system (Endocannabinoid system), throughout which, cells, tissue and organs communicate, all with intention to achieve homeostasis. When using CBD for dogs, cats and other animals, we can improve their quality of life and prevent numerous health problems of our furry friends.

Animals don’t like to get “high”

Non-psychoactive Cannabidiol CBD is one of the two most abundant cannabinoids in hemp, besides THC and it is also one of the most researched ones. CBD can ease numerous symptoms, prevent numerous diseases and leads to general well-being. Pet owners use it mostly for easing health and behavioural problems – arthritis, muscle spasms, epilepsy, neurological and digestive problems, anxiety, obsession, traumas, etc. CBD can also stimulate appetite and reduces recovery time after operations or illnesses. Lots of mature pets suffer from pain (joints and bones) and some of them even became fearful (that can also happen when they ingest higher amounts of THC). All this and many more conditions can be treated with cannabinoids – with stimulation of the endocannabinoid system, whose primary task is to take care of balancing our body functions.

Cbd for pets and possible side effects

There is no doubt that whoever loves animals, especially their pets, wants only the best for them. When deciding which CBD products you are going to give to your pet, it is recommended that you use only verified and certified hemp products with low THC content. Because animals are more prone to psychotropic effects and can’t psychically prepare for them (like humans can), it is strictly advised that you don’t use hemp with high THC content. Because of that, the animal can become paralysed, anxious and confused. We can avoid those unwanted effects when using hemp products with low THC and high CBD content.

Beneficial effects when using CBD for animals

  • Eases anxiety
  • Prevents tumour and cancer developement
  • Eases epilepsy and prevents epileptic seizures
  • Eases pain and inflammations
  • Prevents formation of autoimmune disorders and eases its symptoms
  • Prevents formation of neurodegenerative diseases
  • Improves cardiovascular functioning
  • etc.

Application and dosage of CBD for pets

Like humans, animals can be picky with food. Because hemp products are a bit stronger in taste, it is recommended that you infuse them in other treats or food, so pets can’t distinguish it (especially cats). Since there is no general rule for the dosage of CBD for dogs, cats or any other animals, it is a good idea to start with a small amount, that you gradually increase (every few days or every week), until the desired effects are obtained.

Loli cat owner confession

When kitty started suffering from epilepsy, her health condition went downwards, as she almost didn’t meow or purr anymore. After I made some individual researches and recommendations, I decided to try CBD drops. Because I was afraid for possible interactions between medications and CBD drops or that seizures will repeat, I gradually decreased medications that veterinarian prescribed, whilst increasing CBD dosage. After few days, I stopped using veterinary prescribed medications and increased CBD dosage to around 6-8mg/4,5kg that she gets every 12 hours. Thanks to CBD oil for pets, seizures are a thing of the past.
